Mancherial: Revenue officials said that applications were going to be forwarded to the government requesting compensation to kin of four farmers who died in wall collapse in Luxettipet mandal.

Mancherial Additional Collector (Revenue) V Ramulu told ‘Telangana Today’ that the kin of the four farmers dropped applications seeking compensation of Rs 50 lakh each. The applications would be forwarded to the government as they were in a day or two. The Collector spoke to the Chief Secretary about the issue over the phone. Quantum of compensation depends on discretion of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, he stated.

The Additional Collector further said a file relating to the compensation was already submitted to Collector Kumar Deepak. Meanwhile, instructions were given to Tahsildar to issue death certificates and inquiry reports. Farmers were advised to submit copies of Aadhar cards to speedy disposal of the applications. Efforts are being made to extend the compensation to victims as early as possible.

In two different incidents, four farmers were killed on the spot, while five others sustained injuries when tin-roofed sheds caved in on them due to unseasonal rains coupled with gales at procurement centres at Gampalapalli and Kotthuru villages in Luxettipet mandal on Tuesday midnight, triggering protests among farmers. BRS state general secretary T Jeevan Reddy held the government responsible for the deaths of the farmers.
