Hyderabad: The Telangana Legislative Assembly on Thursday passed the Appropriation Bill amidst concerns voiced by the main opposition party, the BRS, over allocations for the farm sector.
Speaker G Prasad Kumar directed Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka to move the Appropriation Bill, which was swiftly passed by voice vote. Following this, the House, which was in session for 11 days, was adjourned sine die.
The House transacted business for 97 hours and 32 minutes during the session. A total of 12 Bills were introduced and passed, including the Scheduled Castes (Rationalisation of Reservation) Bill, 2025, which paves the way for sub-categorisation of reservations for 59 communities within the Scheduled Castes.
Before the passing of the Appropriation Bill, BRS member T Harish Rao highlighted significant cuts in the farm sector budget, stating that expenditure had been reduced by Rs 23,000 crore for 2024-25. He emphasised that farmers faced substantial setbacks in areas such as loan waivers, Rythu Bharosa and crop insurance.
In response, Bhatti Vikramarka claimed that the government had allocated over Rs 62,718 crores for the farm sector, including capital investments in irrigation projects. He also assured members from Hyderabad that a separate meeting would be convened to address funds for various development activities proposed for the new financial year.
