Arrangements in place for Ganesh idol immersion across Hyderabad

Hyderabad civic agencies have made extensive arrangements for Ganesh idol immersion on Friday, with designated immersion points, artificial ponds, swimmers and DRF teams deployed across the city. Arrangements are also underway for the immersion of the Khairatabad Ganesh idol.

Hyderabad: As Hyderabad prepares for the grand finale of the Ganesh festivities, the GHMC, CMC and MMC have made elaborate arrangements at water bodies for Ganesh idols immersion on Friday.

The Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) facilitated immersions at 53 designated points across its limits. Its teams coordinated sanitation, waste clearance, access and other essential civic arrangements at the sites.

Under its jurisdiction, the Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation (MMC) set up 39 immersion centres across three zones, with 10 in Uppal, 20 in Malkajgiri and nine in LB Nagar. These cover major water bodies and artificial points in parks, playgrounds and market yards.

The plan lists 18 lakes, seven ponds or baby ponds, and 15 artificial lakes or portable tanks. Major sites include Saroor Nagar, Safilguda, Shamirpet and Edulabad.

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) officials arranged a decentralised network of more than 40 major lakes and tanks, along with 74 artificial immersion ponds.

Further, arrangements are under way for the immersion of Hyderabad’s 69-foot-tall Khairatabad Ganesh idol in Hussain Sagar on Friday. The GHMC, Hyderabad police and engineering wings are involved in ensuring the Panchamukha Sankatahara Maha Ganapathi idol reaches its destination safely and ahead of schedule. The Khairatabad Ganesh Utsav Committee restricted darshan of the deity from Thursday as welding and other civil works began at the pandal.

Meanwhile, HYDRAA deployed 150 swimmers at Hussain Sagar and other lakes for large-scale Ganesh immersions. At Hussain Sagar, swimmers have been assigned into three shifts of 50 each, while 84 have been deployed within Cyberabad Municipal Corporation limits.

Fifty-one DRF teams will extend their support during the idols’ immersion process. HYDRA Commissioner AV Ranganath said the agency was coordinating with other departments to ensure immersion proceedings were conducted peacefully and safely.
