Hyderabad: Over 23,000 artisans who perform hazardous ground-level work such as climbing poles to maintain the State’s power infrastructure are angry with the TG Transco management for ignoring their long-pending demands despite earlier assurances. The artisans, who were earlier part of the contract workforce, were brought under Transco during the BRS regime.
They are now on the warpath as they continue to be denied long overdue promotions. They warned that they would be forced to launch an agitation if the management fails to act. Holding the management responsible, the Telangana Electricity Employees’ 1104 Union has demanded immediate resolution of the long-pending issues.
Union general secretary G Sai Babu recalled that the assurances given in a meeting held on July 1, 2025, were endorsed by Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka. The union leaders said that officials had promised further discussions on artisans’ demands. However, even after four months, there was no follow-up meeting, leaving the workers “demoralised and depressed.”
“Artisans are being denied benefits guaranteed under standing orders, including upgradation after five years of service,” the union stated.
The union listed 11 urgent demands, which included upgradation for all artisans with five years of service, introduction of a special grade scale for Grade-I artisans with five years of experience or more, extension of APSEB service regulations to artisans, conversion to regular posts such as Junior Linemen (JLMs) or Junior Assistants, and jobs for families of artisans permanently disabled in departmental accidents. Other demands included the application of leave rules such as earned leave (EL) and half-pay leave (HPL).
