Hyderabad: With Ramappa Temple getting the UNESCO World Heritage Site recognition, the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), Hyderabad Circle, has intensified its efforts for restoration of Kameswaralayam on the temple premises, besides maintenance of Warangal Fort.
The ASI is also working on clearing the vegetation in the well opposite Ramdas Jail in Golconda Fort besides dewatering the existing decomposed water in the well. Tenders had been floated to rope in private agencies to execute the works at the earliest, an official from ASI Hyderabad circle told Telangana Today.
Ever since Ramappa Temple bagged the UNESCO recognition, there has been considerable increase in the flow of visitors to the temple. As part of restoration of Kameswaralayam in the temple premises, ASI plans to take up geotechnical investigation. Towards this, efforts are being made to remove and stack the huge stone at the central hall mandapam and stones above the base stone of Kameswaralayam, the official said.
This apart, all the sand heaps at the centre of Kameswaralayam would be removed for levelling and investigation of existing base layers. Basically these works are done to assess the soil texture and initiate measures accordingly.
Further, steps are being taken to clear the vegetation on the wall at the Mud Fort at Warangal Fort. There is a lot of vegetation on the wall from North to West on the West side of the Mud Fort. ASI officials are now taking steps to clear all the bushes to keep the site neat and clean. More importantly, these works have to be taken up to avoid any damage to the fort walls.
Similarly, the well in front of Ramdas Jail in Golconda Fort lacks proper maintenance. As a result, lot of vegetation has grown on the walls and the roots have penetrated into the walls. Apart from clearing the vegetation, dewatering of existing decomposed water in the well and strengthening the damaged portion of masonry guard walls, steps, partition walls, arch portions, etc., are also being planned as part of these works.
