Asifabad sees rise in crimes by 60 percent in 2025
Kumram Bheem Asifabad district recorded a 60% rise in crimes in 2025, with 1,934 offences versus 1,207 in 2024. Property crimes, burglaries, thefts, and NDPS violations increased, while police strengthened village-level policing and conducted cordon operations

Kumram Bheem Asifabad: Superintendent of Police Nitika Pant said that the district saw a sharp rise by 60 percent of crimes in this year as compared to that of previous years. She briefed the annual crime report to the media persons here on Monday.
Nitika disclosed that the district registered 1,934 offences in 2025 as against 1,207 crimes reported in 2024, indicating an increase by 60.23 percent. Despite a slew of measures taken by the police to control crimes, house burglaries by night, thefts, culpable homicides, kidnappings, grievous hurts and cheatings went up in this year.
The Superintendent said that 210 property-related offences including one robbery, 19 cash, 34 gold and silver, 83 sand, 10 copper wire, 05 cattle, 09 automobile and 49 other theft cases were reported in this year. The loss of property was assessed to be Rs 1.06 crore. Property worth Rs 23 lakh was recovered.
Similarly, vehicle checks were conducted to prevent drunk and drive. During the checks, the district recorded 3,757 cases in 2025 when compared to 1,290 cases in 2024, reflecting a rise by 191 percent. The district saw 1,04,526 e-challans involving fines of Rs 1.97 crore for violating traffic norms as against 63,628 cases and fines worth Rs 1.13 crore.
The IPS officer stated that 46 accused persons were convicted in 2025 when compared to 48 in 2024 and 29 in 2023. The district recorded 73 cases were booked against 122 under NDPS Act for smuggling 15.24 kilograms of banned ganja and cultivating 1,118 plants in this year as against 39 crimes in the previous year.
As part of visible policing at the village level, the village Police Officer (VPO) system was strengthened in order to gather information from villagers. In this district, there are 278 village police officers and they cover 868 villages. A total of 126 cordon and search operations were held. During the operations 200 liters of illicit liquor was seized.
