Mahabubabad: Atal Tinkering Labs (ATLs) will help students gain computational thinking, adaptive learning, physical computing, among others, Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Minister Errabelli Dayakar Rao said on Wednesday.
The Minister was speaking after inaugurating the ATL established at the ZPHS, Thorrur. The lab was set up at a cost of Rs 20 lakh under Atal Innovation Mission Scheme (AMS). It is one of the flagship programmes of the Centre. As a part of it, more than 9500 ATL had been set up in the country to train 75 lakh students and help them become scientists.
Speaking on the occasion, Dayakar Rao said a total of five schools in Mahabubabad district had been chosen for setting up the ATLs. “While three of them are government schools, the other two are private schools. I feel that the students of the Thorrur government school are fortunate to get the lab under the Atal Innovation Mission,” he said.
“Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) is aimed at creating and promoting a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship across the length and breadth of our country. The objective of this innovative programme is to develop new programmes and policies for fostering innovation in different sectors of the economy, providing platforms and collaboration opportunities for different stakeholders,” he said and added that the ATL would foster curiosity, creativity, and imagination in young minds.
“The schools equipped with ATLs will help greatly expand the reach of the ATL programme and help to children get exposed to tinkering and innovation and providing access to the young innovators of India to technologies like 3D Printing, Robotics, IoT and microprocessors”, said a teacher, and added that all the schools had got separate labs for different subjects. “An installment of Rs 12 lakhs is given for the first year. Then Rs two lakhs is disbursed each year for the next four years. After five years, schools have to bear the expenses of the labs themselves,” he added.
Officers from Niti Aayog will visit the ATLs periodically to check the progress of work. If the established ATLs encounter any problems, the authorised officers will attempt to resolve them. School staff, students and parents attended the inauguration programme at the ZPHS , Thorrur.
