Kothagudem: Auto Workers Union (AITUC) State president Kancharla Jamalaiah has demanded the State government not to allow Rapido, Ola and Uber taxi companies to operate in Kothagudem town.

A large number of auto rickshaw drivers under the aegis of the union took out a protest rally here on Tuesday. A dharna in front of the RDO office was staged and a petition was submitted to the RDO.

Speaking on the occasion, Jamalaiah said that Rapido, Ola and Uber companies were not needed in Kothagudem town, which was spread over four kilometres from Vidyanagar Colony to Palakendram, from Palakendram to Bus Stand, and from Bus Stand to Ramavaram.

He expressed his concern that auto rickshaw drivers would have to suffer financially due to the taxi services of the above companies in Kothagudem. Auto rickshaw drivers were already hit economically due to free travel offered by the Congress government in RTC buses for women under Mahalaxmi scheme, he said.

In Kothagudem town, many children of Singareni retired workers and youths who have studied higher studies were working as auto rickshaw drivers to eke out a living. Hence the government should take measures to prevent Rapido, Ola and Uber from operating in Kothagudem town, Jamalaiah said.

The union district secretary Marri Krishna, members Abbulu Krishna, Amidu, Bhaskar Koti Ramaraju, Chappidi Koteswara Rao, Joseph and others took part in the protest.
