Hyderabad: Union Minister for Women and Child Development Smriti Irani on Friday appreciated various initiatives taken up by the Telangana government for the development and welfare of women in the State. She said the ‘Balamrutham’, introduced to provide improved supplementary nutrition to children aged between seven months and three years and the growth monitoring special drive were excellent. The Central government was ready to implement ‘Balamrutham’ in other States keeping in view its success.
At the same time, the Telangana government was implementing the growth monitoring special drive exceptionally. “If it is implemented across the country then it would be helpful in monitoring growth of the children,” she said when Women and Children Welfare Minister Satyavathi Rathod met her at the former’s office in New Delhi.
Satyavathi Rathod brought to the notice of Smriti Irani the reduction of Central government share in various schemes pertaining to the children, lactating mothers and pregnant women apart from completion of the deadline of the schemes. Since the deadline of ‘Poshan Abiyaan’ scheme would conclude by September 30, Satyavathi Rathod urged Smriti Irani to continue the scheme and requested her to extend ‘Prime Minister Garib Kalyan’ bima facility started for health care workers during Covid-19 pandemic to Anganwadi teachers and helpers.
Satyavathi Rathod also requested the Union Minister to increase the quota of millets supplied under the Central government nutrition programme. She invited Smriti Irani to visit Telangana for monitoring various schemes and initiatives introduced by the Telangana government. In response, Smriti Irani said that she would visit shortly and assured that there is no question of stopping the Pochan Abiyaan scheme and it would be implemented more effectively.
