Mancherial: The BRS district president Balka Suman alleged they had successfully thwarted all-out efforts made shamelessly by the Congress to capture the chairperson of Kyathanpalli municipality even though it could not win an absolute majority.

He was addressing media persons at his residence in Kyathanpalli on Sunday evening. Suman charged that the Congress was not accepting the mandate given by the voters of Kyathanpalli municipality in the recent elections.

He opined that it was shameful for the Congress to bag the post of chairperson of the civic body using short-cut methods. He accused the party of attempting to disperse the councillors camped in a hotel at Bhadrachalam town with the help of police.

The district president claimed that on receiving information of the attack, he shifted the councilors of the BRS-CPI alliance to Kyathanpalli even before the police reached the hotel.

He stated that he stationed cadres of the BRS along the way to prevent trouble by the Congress while shifting the councilors. He regretted that the party was not respecting the verdict of the electors.

The BRS-CPI alliance won 11 wards of the 22-member Kyathanpalli municipality, while the Congress had to be content with seven wards and Independents emerged victorious from a single ward.
