Hyderabad: Congress party is fielding National Student Union of India
(NSUI) State president Balmoori Venkat Narsing Rao, popularly known as
Balmoori Venkat as its candidate in the Huzurabad by-poll, which is
scheduled to take on October 30.
A native of Peddapally district, Venkat is an MBBS graduate. AICC
announced his candidature in a press release issued on Saturday
evening.
After much deliberation, the Congress party has finalised Balmoori
Venkat as its candidate. It was a challenging task for the party to
finalise the candidate as there were differences among the leaders in
selection of the candidate. The party also appointed a committee under
the leadership of former Deputy Chief Minister Damodar Rajanarsimha.
A section of leaders wanted the party to field former Minister Konda
Surekha but she reportedly put in some conditions for contesting the
elections, while few others pressed for the candidature of a former MP
from neighbouring district.
With many opinions being raised by different sections of the leaders
within the party, the State leadership had sought applications from
people willing to contest the by-poll. Over a dozen applications were
filed by aspirants but the party finally finalized Balmoori Venkat as
its candidate.
The last date for filing nominations is October 8 and candidates can
withdraw their nominations before October 16. Results will be declared
on November 2.
