Mancherial: The bandh, called by the BRSV in protest against the arrest of BRS district president Balka Suman and three others, progressed peacefully across the district on Thursday.
Commercial establishments and educational institutions, including private schools and colleges, remained closed across the district following the bandh call. Police personnel were deployed at key junctions in the district centre, Kyathanpalli, Chennur, Luxettipet and Bellampalli towns to prevent any untoward incidents. Mandal centres witnessed similar scenes.
Both BRSV and BRS cadres took to the streets and ensured that commercial establishments were shut. They raised slogans against the Congress for arresting Suman and lodging him in Adilabad jail, and condemned his arrest and 14-day judicial remand. BRSV leaders were placed under house arrest as a preventive measure. The bandh progressed without any incidents of conflict.
BRSV district president Badikela Shravan slammed Labour Minister Dr G Vivek, accusing him of forcing the police to register false cases against Suman and nine others during the recent Kyathanpalli municipal chairperson election. He alleged that Vivek was attempting to capture the chairperson post illegally despite the Congress not securing a majority of wards.
BRS leaders accused Vivek of adopting illegal methods to gain power in Kyathanpalli and lashed out at him for disrespecting the mandate of the electors. They alleged that intoxicated Congress councillors misbehaved with women councillors belonging to the BRS-CPI alliance, dishonouring women of the Chennur Assembly constituency, and urged people of the segment to respond to the alleged anarchy exercised by Vivek.
