Hyderabad: Extending moral support to former BRS MLA Balka Suman, who was arrested on Wednesday in connection with the Kyathanpalli municipality election standoff, former Minister T Harish Rao left for Adilabad on Thursday morning to call on him.
The BRS Deputy Floor Leader, along with a few senior leaders from the party, left for Adilabad in the morning and is expected to meet the former MLA in prison.
Suman had accused the Congress government of acting against democratic principles and resorting to unethical practices to win control of the Kyathanpalli municipality. The State Election Commission has postponed the election in the municipality.
The former Dalit MLA alleged that the election of Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson was not being conducted in a free and fair manner. Though the BRS had won a majority of wards, the Congress was trying to secure the Chairperson and Vice Chairperson posts.
Tension prevailed in the municipality after BRS and Congress leaders were engaged in a physical altercation. Alleging that Balka Suman had resorted to stone-pelting, the police arrested the former Dalit MLA.
In protest against the Congress government, a bandh is being observed in the region.
