Adilabad: The day-long bandh demanding 42 per cent reservations for BCs passed off peacefully across the erstwhile Adilabad district on Saturday.
TGSRTC buses remained confined to depots in Adilabad, Nirmal, Utnoor, Asifabad, Mancherial and Bhainsa, causing inconvenience to passengers. Leaders from BC communities took out a bike rally in Adilabad town and later garlanded the statue of Dr B R Ambedkar before submitting a representation.
Former BRS MLA Jogu Ramanna, along with members of the Joint Action Committee, staged a sit-in in front of the Adilabad depot, urging the government to fulfil its poll promise of providing 42 per cent reservations to BCs. He accused both the Congress and BJP of playing “double games” on the reservation issue.
Ramanna criticised Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy for failing on ensuring the promised 42 percent reservations and lashed out at BJP MPs for failing to raise the matter in Parliament. He reiterated that the BRS was firmly backing the BC reservation demand and appealed to all sections to ensure the bandh’s success.
Similar protests were reported from Mancherial, Nirmal and Kumram Bheem Asifabad districts.
