Rajanna-Sircilla: Negligence by bank authorities has forced a Kalyana Lakshmi scheme beneficiary to forego the benefit in Konaraopet mandal. Nerella Padma of Dharmaram had applied for the Kalyana Lakshmi scheme for her daughter Revathi’s marriage held a year ago by uploading the details online.
After one year, the government sanctioned Rs.1,00,116 and on January 20, 2026, Vemulawada MLA Adi Srinivas distributed 106 cheques to beneficiaries from the mandal. As the validity of the cheque was up to January 29, 2026, she deposited the cheque in her bank account at the Konaraopet branch of the Karimnagar District Cooperative Central Bank on January 21, 2026.
As the amount was not credited to her account, Padma visited the bank on January 27 and was told that the money would be credited to her account within one week. However, bank manager Devaraju called her on January 30 and asked her to collect the cheque immediately since it had expired.
When she went to the bank, she was asked to get a new cheque from the Tahsildar by submitting the expired one. Otherwise, the amount would not be deposited in her account, she was told. When she approached the Tahsildar, she was told that the cheques were distributed within the validity period and the amounts were deposited in the bank accounts of all other beneficiaries within two to three days.
Stating that her cheque had expired due to negligence of the bank manager, she appealed to higher officials to respond to the issue and take steps to issue a new cheque.
