Hyderabad: Telangana Association of United Kingdom (TAUK) celebrated Bathukamma festival in a low-key manner due to local Covid-19 guidelines.
With the inspiration given by MLC K. Kavitha to promote Telangana culture globally, TAUK women members not exceeding the limited of half a dozen participants played Bathukamma at the historic London Tower Bridge to showcase and give highest tribute to Telangana’s historic Bathukamma.

In a press note, Association founder Anil Kurmachalam said, Bathukamma was celebrated on a grand scale every year inviting hundreds of guests all over UK, but due to ongoing Covid-19 situation, only limited members were invited for the celebrations. “We know this is not the time for celebrations but at the same time we strongly feel that as an individual and group we have the responsibility to promote and respect our culture and festivals,” he said.
He appreciated the women association members, who travelled all the way to London Tower Bridge braving the weather conditions to give pride and respect to Bathukamma and Telangana culture.
Association president Pavithra Reddy Kand said they got an opportunity to connect with many global NRI organisations through virtual celebrations this year. She thanked every NRI organisation and especially women across the world for continuing the spirit and tradition by organising Bathukamma following Covid-19 guidelines.
