The beta is out and the most popular battle royale game is back, albeit with a different name and published under a different banner.
First things first, yes, all your achievements and equipment from PUBG mobile transfer right in the first few minutes if you choose to do so. From then on, its smooth sailing as you can decide to parachute into Miramar, Sanhok, or Erangel. If you are in the mood for something new, there are picturesque Beta maps like Livik or the brand new Karakain. Livik especially caught my eye with its resplendent pink foliage and some wonderfully designed windmills.
Moving on from the first impressions, not much has changed in the game as all the in-game menus indicate that it isn’t a new game but a repackaged PUBG Mobile. The game is in season 19, the royale pass functions just the same and all your favourite guns are here. There are additions though, as there are a few new guns (a shotgun I found in Livik) and the return of some old favourites. The gameplay is smooth and we didn’t experience any glitches in our games whatsoever.
Any battle royale game is made by its playing community though, and PUBG Mobile had a very large vibrant set of players.
I guess some of them have returned to the Beta as well, as right in my first game I was welcomed to players shouting in their mics and treated to some choice Hindi expletives. The community hasn’t changed too much I guess; I recommend muting players if you hope to play peacefully. However, if you play aggressively or with conversation amongst teammates the party system works flawlessly.
Matchmaking is quick and responsive as always, I had no problems finding teammates or players even in the Livik beta map. While the game is PUBG Mobile in everything but name, there are a few significant changes though.
Right at the start of every round, Battlegrounds informs you that the game is imaginary and purely for entertainment. It informs this via a textbox that needs you to tap on the OK icon and an audio message in the background.
Similarly, the word ‘kills’ has been replaced by ‘finished’ while, these are not significant changes they are steps that indicate the developers’ commitment to addressing the criticism against it. It’s a good start in my opinion. So, the most popular mobile game in India is back, there is a lot to love here if battle royale is your preferred genre. Will you be paratrooping into it as well?
