Sangareddy: The bandh called by the BC Joint Action Committee was total across the erstwhile Medak district on Saturday.
The bandh call saw wide participation from political parties, including the BRS, which led protests in several parts of the district. In Siddipet, BRS leaders organised rasta-rokos and demonstrations across the town. Educational institutions and commercial establishments remained closed until the afternoon, while RTC buses were confined to depots. Traders voluntarily downed shutters in support of the bandh.
BRS leader Kamuni Srinivas demanded that Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy explain why the BC Bill was not introduced in Parliament. He accused the Congress government of “enacting a drama” by issuing a Government Order that would not stand legal scrutiny.
In Sangareddy, police initially stopped CPI(M) leaders from burning an effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, but the protesters later succeeded. The CPI(M) leaders described Modi as “anti-BC”.
