Hyderabad: Stating that Congress party always supported the cause of social justice, TPCC president A Revanth Reddy said caste-based census would ensure social justice for all, especially the Backward Classes.

Addressing the all-party meeting at Indira Bhavan on caste census here on Monday, he said such a census would help in addressing the injustice done to few communities. The TPCC president further said that the caste census would increase the representations of Backward Classes in law-making bodies.

TJS president M. Kodandaram welcomed the State government’s move to pass a resolution seeking caste census in the State Assembly. “The BC census should be conducted as it will reflect the exact population of the community. Apart from passing resolution, all parties should press for conducting the census,” said Kodandaram.

Later in the day, former Minister Nagam Janardhan Reddy wrote a letter to Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao appealing to him to approach the Central government departments and seek permissions for all the ongoing and future irrigation projects of the State.

“We have every right to use 575 TMC of assured Krishna water of 811 TMC besides flood waters as per equitable share. Any laxity would cause tremendous harm to the State,” said Janardhan Reddy in the letter.
