Hyderabad: The Telangana Backward Classes Commission has decided to seek details of caste status of Sarpanches and Ward Members elected in the recent Gram Panchayat elections from Panchayat Raj department.

Out of the 343 Heads of Department (HOD) identified, caste details of employees have been received from 333 of them. Among the 10 remaining HODs, eight are from Finance and two are from the Municipal Administration department.

The Commission stated that the delay in receiving details from these departments was causing a delay in the State-level analysis of employee data undertaken by the BC Commission. Accordingly, the Commission wanted the Finance and Municipal Administration departments Secretaries to submit the caste details of employees at the earliest.

Further, the Commission held detailed discussions on the procedures for establishing BC Cells in all State Government departments. These decisions were taken during a meeting held here on Friday under the chairmanship of G Niranjan.

During the meeting, the Commission members also discussed various issues, especially the procedures for issuing DNT certificates required for availing of the SEED scheme being implemented by the Central Government.

The Commission has decided to advise the State Government to notify the nomadic communities in the State. It would also suggest necessary amendments to the caste certificates currently being issued.

It was decided that the Commission’s comprehensive report on this matter would be discussed and approved in the next meeting, a release from the Commission said.
