Hyderabad: Nagarkurnool District Collector B Santosh has submitted a report on the Kummera village incident, in which a two-month-old baby died, to the Telangana Commission for Backward Classes. He stated that A1 Srinivas Reddy, A2 Madhusudan Reddy and A3 Srikanth Reddy were arrested by the police on February 23 and remanded to judicial custody.

The remaining six accused were absconding, as per the Collector’s report, which was submitted on February 28. The BC Commission had sought a report from the District Collector regarding the Kummera Jatara incident. Commission Chairman G Niranjan, along with other Members, had visited the village on February 24 and gathered details. The District Collector stated in the report that on February 25, the district administration had extended Rs 1 lakh to the baby’s father, Ganesh, from the District Administrative Fund.

He was provided an outsourcing job at the Nagarkurnool Government Medical College, and a two-bedroom house was being allotted to him. The report elaborately detailed all the incidents that occurred from February 18 to 21 during the Kummera Mallanna Jatara. It was stated that nearly 20,000 devotees participated in the Jatara from February 17 to 20. At around 8.30 pm on February 18, U Srinivas Reddy lodged a complaint at Nagar Kurnool Police Station against Chandrakala, Bauramma and Ganesh. On the same day, around 9.30 pm, Ganesh lodged a complaint with the police against Srinivas Reddy and six others.

On February 21, Mounika brought her two-month-old baby to the Nagarkurnool Hospital around 6 am, stating that the baby was unresponsive since morning. Around 7.00 am, the duty doctor declared the baby dead. Based on the suspicion expressed by the mother, Mounika, the case was registered as a suspicious death case at Nagarkurnool Police Station, as mentioned in the Collector’s report.

It was stated that Mounika has not yet submitted any certificates to confirm her caste. To ascertain her caste, directions were given to the Tahsildar of Mahammadabad. The Tahsildar reported that Mounika’s mother, Balakrishnamma, belongs to the Pichchaguntla (Vamsaraj) community, which is listed under BC-A, Serial No. 18.

Incidentally, the report mentions that the baby, born on December 21, 2025, was admitted to Nagarkurnool Hospital and later referred to the Niloufer Hospital, Hyderabad. The baby received treatment at Niloufer Hospital from December 21 to January 21, 2026. There is no connection between that treatment and the current incident mentioned in the report.
