BCI makes a ‘U turn’ on NALSAR graduates’ enrolment with State Bar Councils
The Bar Council of India has rescinded its decision asking State Bar Councils not to enrol NALSAR’s 2026 graduates. The BCI said students should not suffer for alleged misconduct by others and sought a factual report from the university Vice-Chancellor.
Hyderabad: Hours after asking the State Bar Councils not to enrol NALSAR University of Law students’ of 2026 batch amid convocation invite to Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, the Bar Council of India (BCI) on Thursday rescinded its decision.
Modifying its earlier order, the BCI said all students will be entitled to get enrolled with the State Bar Councils of their choice. “No student shall be made to suffer without any fault on his part,” said Manan Kumar Mishra, Chairman BCI.
The BCI took this decision after discussing with the members who were of the unanimous view that the majority of students of NALSAR (2026 pass out students) were innocent and were not inclined to take part in the move of disrespect.
The issue began after a section of the NALSAR students opposed the proposal to invite Chief Justice of India Surya Kant as the chief guest to the varsity’s convocation.
In a letter addressed to NALSAR University of Law Vice Chancellor Prof. Srikrishna Deva Rao, the BCI Chairman sought a complete factual report on the issue.
“The Council will wait for the inquiry report of the Learned Vice Chancellor and further action will be taken after receipt of the report,” Mishra said.
Earlier, in an email to the Vice Chancellor, some students said their concern arises from the refusal of the Supreme Court Bench led by the CJI to allow urgent listing of a plea concerning the alleged brutal police action against protesters during the peaceful ‘Chalo Sansad’ demonstration at Jantar Mantar on July 20.
Citing some reports by reliable sources, the BCI Chairman said that a handful of teachers and outsiders were instrumental in instigating the innocent students.
