Hyderabad: Warning the Congress government against any attempt to deceive the Backward Classes, former Minister and Sanath Nagar MLA Talasani Srinivas Yadav on Saturday said BC communities were ready to dismantle the ruling dispensation if it failed to implement the promised 42 per cent reservation.
Speaking at a protest rally held as part of the Statewide BC Bandh at RTC Crossroads, Srinivas Yadav accused the Congress of misleading marginalised sections with false promises to gain power and later betraying them.
“We are joining the bandh as the opposition to demand fulfilment of these pledges. But Congress leaders, who should implement the promises, and BJP leaders, who should provide legal backing, are shamelessly hitting the streets instead,” he said.
Srinivas Yadav pointed out contradictions in the government’s handling of the reservation issue. “We extended full support to the Bill in the Assembly, and it was forwarded to the Governor. While it remains pending with the Governor, the government issued an ordinance and GOs later. This is nothing but a drama to lure the BCs,” he alleged.
He said the community’s struggle was not just about reservations but also about self-respect and dignity. Asserting that the agitation would intensify in the coming days, he said this was only the beginning.
Srinivas Yadav also accused the Congress of using diversionary tactics to cover up public discontent over its 22-month rule. He questioned the sincerity of the party’s top leadership for skipping the BC dharna at Jantar Mantar in Delhi. “If the Congress has the resolve, why did the party high command stay away from the Jantar Mantar protest? Don’t they know that tabling the Bill in Parliament and including it in the Ninth Schedule is the only way to grant it the required legal validity?” he asked.
Reiterating the demand for legal backing to the 42 per cent BC quota, the former Minister said elections to local bodies should not be conducted until the reservation was given statutory protection.
