Hyderabad: Just when the temperatures started going up, with sultry days here much before the actual summer, the Telangana government’s beer price hike has hit beer lovers hard in the State. Most brands have become costlier by at least Rs.30 to Rs.40. Though the government called it a 15 per cent hike, the maximum retail price (MRP) of beers including taxes has gone up by 15 per cent to 19 per cent for consumers.
Accordingly, the price of Kingfisher Ultra beer (650 ml), which was Rs.210 earlier, has gone up by Rs.40 to Rs.250, while KF Ultra Max will cost Rs.260 now instead of Rs.220. A 650 ml bottle of KF Premium, one of the most popular beers here, will now cost Rs.180, a Rs.30 jump from its earlier price of Rs.150. KF Strong too will cost an extra Rs.30 now, with the revised price being Rs.190.
The price hike came shortly after Kingfisher row where United Breweries Limited (UBL) had decided to halt its supply of Kingfisher and Heineken beers to Telangana Beverages Corporation Limited (TGBCL), citing losses due to the beverage’s stagnant prices in the state. Though Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy declared that the government would not bow down to such intimidation tactics, the issue was resolved shortly after the government assured to look into the issues raised by the beer companies.
According to the Telangana Wine Dealers Association, the beer prices were hiked with immediate effect from Tuesday. Here are the old and latest prices of different brands:
