Medak: The annual jatara at the temple of Bethala Swamy, whom the locals consider as leader of the demons, will begin on Monday in Alludurg. The temple is considered a rare one.

The locals say that it is just the second such religious place for Hindus in Telangana after the Bethala Temple in Kondagattu. The week-long festivities will kick start on Monday when the devotees will offer traditional bonam to Poleramma, another village deity. The villagers say the temple was built 400 years ago when the village was affected with various diseases. The temple was built to ward off the evil effect of demons on the villagers. Since the villagers got a relief from the diseases, they had started offering prayers every year during this time which the entire village celebrates in a grand way inviting friends and relatives.

The devotees will offer bonam to Pochamma on April 15, Durga on April 16 and Bethala on 17. A bullock cart rally will be taken out on April 18 which will be followed by various rituals until April 22 though the main festivities will end on April 20.

The organisers have made all arrangements to ensure smooth darshan for the devotees who would visit the temple from Karnataka, Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh. The Medak police will also deploy forces to streamline the devotee flow besides making arrangements for parking.
