Kothagudem: ITDA Bhadrachalam’s initiative has helped children in a remote tribal hamlet in Dummugudem mandal in the district to have access to education.

As many as 30 tribal boys and girls in the old Narayanaraopeta village in mandal are forced to stay away from schooling as the tribal welfare department’s primary schools are far away from the village.

The residents of the village took the matter to the notice of the ITDA project officer B Rahul stating that they could not send their children to school due to logistic problems. They appealed to the project officer to build a school in the village. The ITDA officer, understanding their curiosity and passion for the education of their children, responded to their request and sanctioned Rs 4.50 lakh for constructing a iron sheet roofed school in the village. The school started functioning recently. Rahul said that measures were being taken to offer education to tribal boys and girls through the tribal welfare department. Steps were also being taken to ensure that the foundational learning would be strong so that the students could excel in their studies.

He said that books, pencils and educational materials have been provided to the children after the school started. He told the parents that children must be taught Koya language from an early age, and they must be informed about their language, culture, traditions and customs. Rahul suggested that the students should talk to their parents and their fellow children at home every day in their own language and that the children should study well and grow to a higher level.
