Khammam: Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka laid the foundation stone for an underground power cable project in Madhira on Tuesday to ensure uninterrupted power supply to the residents.

Speaking on the occasion, he informed that Rs 27.76 crore would be spent to lay 3.5 km-long 33kv lines, 17.3 km-long 11kv lines and 15 km-long LT lines underground in Madhira town. Proposals were prepared to replace existing 11kv overhead lines with underground cables.

Vikramarka noted that once the underground cables were laid, the town would look beautiful without overhead wires and electrical hazards would be reduced besides allowing tree plantation along the roads. Power could be supplied in Madhira uninterruptedly even during heavy rains.

Later speaking to the media after reviewing the education department with senior officials at Madhira camp office, the Deputy Chief Minister said Ambedkar Knowledge Centres would be set up at constituency level to help rural youth prepare for competitive exams without the need to go to Hyderabad.

The centres would be equipped with essential study material and digital libraries. Online coaching would be provided by expert faculty from across the State and nation. Proposals have already been prepared to start these centres in five constituencies of Khammam district.

NPDCL CMD K Varun Reddy, Education Secretary Yogita Rana, District Collector Anudeep Durishetty and others were present.
