Hyderabad: ‘Bheemla Nayak’ stormed its way through to big screens amidst an unexpected euphoria, craze and frenzy. But a staunch fan of Pawan Kalyan might feel a little let down watching Rana’s character dominating the Power Star in some ways.
The story isn’t that fresh as it’s a known fact that it was borrowed from the Malayalam original ‘Ayyappanum Koshiyum’.
It starts with an ex-Indian Army soldier Havaldar Daniel Sekhar (Rana Daggubati) who is an alcohol-addict and has a lot of eccentricities to his character. Trudging through the Srisailam jungles, Daniel gets caught carrying liquor at a checkpost.
The high-handedness of a police constable on duty, makes Daniel furious. The brawl gradually snowballs into a storm. Sub-inspector Bheemla Nayak is called to handle the situation at the checkpost.
And Bheemla makes a heroic entry. He is not the regular duty-bound SI. The upright straightforward demeanor and aggressive nature makes Bheemla unique in the police circle. The confrontation between Bheemla and Daniel gradually leads to the arrest of Daniel for his offences. The magistrate sends Danny to two-week prison at Nandikotkur jail. The second half tells how this face-off between the two results in unwanted events in their lives.
Actor Rana has pulled off another career-defining role as a Havaldar with a rough-hewn attire and thrown out of service. Why the son of a Member of Parliament joins the Indian Army and why he marries a tribal woman gives a twist to his character. His mannerism and style certainly earns him accolades. Rao Ramesh’s character as Naga Raju evokes boisterous laughter.
One may feel a bit slumpy watching the elevated scenes projecting Pawan Kalyan as a Godly figure. Being truthful to Bheemla’s characterisation would have been better than eulogising the already-heroic figure. The film projects PK as a roaring lion, but the tiger, Rana, also grabs attention with his kickass performance.
The dialogues and the screenplay from Trivikram, music from S Thaman are the key takeaways of the film. Telugu remakes are usually twisted and slightly skewed, and Bheemla Nayak is not an exception as it had to appease the large section of fans.
Cast: Pawan Kalyan, Nithya Menen, Rana Daggubati, Samyuktha Menon, Rao Ramesh
Director: Saagar K Chandra
Music: Thaman
