Kothagudem: Honey trapping, a tactic usually associated with espionage thrillers and political intrigue, appears to have found an unusual adaptation in rural Kothagudem, this time involving feathers instead of feelings.
In what can only be described as a ‘bird honey trap’, unidentified youths allegedly used a hen to lure and steal a prized rooster belonging to a farmer at Machinenipet thanda in Julurpad mandal, according to a complaint lodged with the police.
Lakavath Jeth Ram, a 50-year-old farmer, approached the Julurpad police on Saturday seeking action against a group of youths accused of stealing one of his roosters. He stated that he owned three roosters and a hen, which he reared at his residence. The theft is believed to have occurred on Thursday afternoon when Jeth Ram had gone to his agricultural field for work. On returning home in the evening, he discovered that one rooster was missing. Subsequent inquiries with neighbours revealed an unusual sequence of events.
According to the complaint, some youths arrived on a two-wheeler carrying a hen and released it near the farmer’s house compound. Drawn by the presence of the hen, the unsuspecting rooster approached it, only to be swiftly grabbed by the youths, who then fled the scene on their vehicle. The complaint, describing this inventive poultry theft, has since gone viral on social media, leaving many amused at the unusual method employed by the alleged thieves, even as the farmer awaits action from the police.
