Khammam: The BJP government at the Centre has plotted to keep farmers away from agriculture by allowing corporate houses to enter into the agriculture sector, alleged CPI State Secretary Chada Venkat Reddy.
He attended the party State Committee meeting and addressed a press conference here on Tuesday. He feared that the farmers with small land holdings would become labourers as the corporate houses would engage in cultivation on a massive scale.
The Modi government which was handing the public sector entities to the corporate forces was now targeting agriculture sector, on which around 70 per cent of Indian population depend for livelihood, Reddy explained. He questioned the rationale behind increasing petroleum products prices even as the Covid-9 pandemic made people suffer financially and accused the BJP government of failing to control price hike in essential commodities.
Reddy stated that the CPI would take up an uncompromising struggle against the communal policies of the BJP, which he said was trying to divide the country on religious lines. He felt that the BJP leadership’s efforts to gain strength in Telangana would not result. He said the political situation in Telangana was fast changing, with leadership changes in a few parties a season of padayatras was set to begin. In the backdrop of changing political scenario the CPI would take measures to bolster its organisational strength.
Referring to the dispute over sharing of Krishna river waters by AP and Telangana, Reddy noted that the BJP government at the Centre failed to protect Telangana interests even though Karnataka and Maharashtra State utilised water above their share. He demanded the State government to address the podu lands issue and take measures to complete pending projects taken up on river Krishna. The CPI would stage dharnas at district headquarters on July 9 demanding to complete pending projects, he informed.
