Hyderabad: Khairatabad municipal division had been the bastion of the Congress for over two decades before the TRS took control of it after winning 2016 GHMC elections. BJP candidate Singari Veena Madhuri is confident of giving stiff competition to rival TRS sitting corporator P Vijaya Reddy. Having been involved in various charity works and public service in and around the division, Veena Madhuri feels that she would bring more development to the Khairatabad if the people elect her.
She campaigned in Kapadia lane, Raj Bhavan road, Balapur and surrounding areas and interacted with the public. “Drainage has been the age old problem in Khairatabad. Even a brief spell of rain makes people wade through flood waters and the plight is worse in Srinivasa Nagar and Nehru Nagar. A common man only wants basic needs like power, drinking water, proper drainage system and shelter. I promise to my people that I would be within their reach and ensure all round development of the division if voted to power,” she says.
Khairatabad has around 60,000 voters. Veena says, “Our family had worked with the Congress party in the past and people whom we had served in the past will support us. BJP has done more work than any other party and from distributing rice to organising free food for families affected during lockdown, we have served people,” she says.
Accompanying Veena in the election campaign, her brother Singari Rajkumar expressed confidence that the work done by senior BJP leader Chintala Ramachandra Reddy in Khairatabad would also score marks for her sister in the ensuing polls.
