Hyderabad: State BJP president Bandi Sanjay Kumar on Saturday called upon the party Yuva Morcha activists to stop stand-up comedian Munawar Faruqui from performing in the city. “It is your responsibility to prevent Faruqui’s entry into the city,” he instructed the activists during a programme organised by the party in connection with the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee at the State office in Nampally.
Sanjay made these remarks while responding to an invitation extended by Industries Minister KT Rama Rao, who earlier said, “Hyderabad is truly cosmopolitan and offers stand-up comedians an open invite. We don”t cancel shows of Munawar Faruqui and Kunal Kamra just because we are not aligned with them politically,” Rama Rao said. Earlier this week, Faruqui took to his Instagram to announce his show titled ‘Dhando’ in Hyderabad on January 9.
Faruqui”s show in Bengaluru was cancelled in November after protests by Hindu right-wing groups, who alleged that he had hurt their religious sentiments in one of his shows.
Besides Bengaluru, his shows in Gujarat, Gurugram, Chhattisgarh, and Goa too were cancelled following threats from various right-wing groups. Sanjay said the party activists should preventFaruqui from entering the city as he conducts shows criticising the Hindu Goddesses. Several States have already banned his entry, he claimed. Meanwhile, the BJP celebrated Vajpayee”s birth anniversary as a good governance day across the country.
Union Tourism Minister G Kishan Reddy, who was also present at the programme, said the path shown by Vajpayee should be followed by everyone. It was Vajpayee, who introduced several welfare schemes and technology-driven initiatives for the development of the country on all fronts. “Vajpayee introduced various reforms when he was the Prime Minister. The same reforms resulted in the expansion of telecom services in the country.
The expansion of highways and other road networks gained momentum during his tenure,” Reddy said. He added that Vajpayee”s commitment helped in strengthening the BJP in the country.
