BJP MP urges Telangana to cut paddy production, push for millets
Despite the increased paddy production in the country, the BJP MP said developed countries were not importing paddy due to its failure to meet their standards and extensive use of urea.
Hyderabad: Even as farmers are staging protests over insufficient urea and the State government is demanding more urea from the Centre, BJP MP Konda Vishweshwar Reddy said there was no need for extensive paddy cultivation in Telangana.
Despite the increased paddy production in the country, the BJP MP said developed countries were not importing paddy due to its failure to meet their standards and extensive use of urea. At a press conference here on Thursday, he said paddy production had increased substantially in Telangana as well.
“The annual consumption of rice in Telangana is about 27 lakh metric tonnes. At this rate, nearly 45 lakh tonnes of paddy is required but the State is producing 283 lakh metric tonnes,” he said, stressing the need for crop diversification and large-scale cultivation of millets.
Recce by Rohingyas
Alleging that a recce was conducted at a BJP leader’s house in Maheshwaram by Rohingyas recently, he claimed that there were nearly 20 lakh Bangladeshis in Telangana. Their voter IDs should be checked and a voter ID revision should be conducted in the Telugu State again as is being done in Bihar, he added.
