Black Flag ‘Resynced’: A ground-up remake with lots of new depth
Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced transforms Ubisoft's pirate classic with enhanced visuals, expanded storytelling, refined combat and improved naval warfare. The remake successfully modernises Edward Kenway's adventure while retaining the charm that made the original one of the franchise's finest entries.

Hyderabad: In the first couple of hours with Black Flag Resynced, in one of its new flashbacks, Edward Kenway, the protagonist, recalls bringing some chocolate for his wife, Caroline, after saving some money at the pub.
He decides to make her some hot chocolate and tries to use it as a justification to become a privateer, only to realise Caroline has had chocolate before because she is the daughter of a trader.
Moments like these are what Resynced is all about – new additions that act as meaningful extensions and offer both nuance and depth to its central characters. In Resynced, Edward isn’t just a greedy privateer turned pirate in search of a better life but someone relatable who wishes to live life on his terms.
In terms of the degree and scale of the “remake,” this is an entirely remade game that treats the original as source material to both modernize the gameplay and expand and polish the plot and the game world.
There is a lot more here than ray tracing and the visual upgrades – which are spectacular, to say the least. The turquoise, clear waters and the sandy beaches of Havana, Nassau, and Tortuga are eye-openers, to say the least, but so is the game’s transition to the Anvil engine.
There are major additions to dialogue, key missions, and the central campaign, as well as a twist that is going to leave most of us quite surprised. There are also new characters, collectibles, and even missions with characters to unlock their loyalty.
Beyond the additions, the combat and naval warfare have also been overhauled, as the inclusion of perfect parries and braces makes the game a lot more about skill.
Similarly, the use of swivel cannons has changed, as it is no longer just a QuickTime event. Stealth has received a boost as well, with mechanics that are almost on par with last year’s Shadows.
For those of you who have never played Black Flag, this can be the start of a great naval adventure that blends both piracy and Assassin gameplay. For those like me who thoroughly enjoyed the original, there is a lot of new content to experience.
It is an almost novel experience that refines the original and offers new ways of returning to Nassau in search of liberty. Make sure to sail with Blackbeard and experience it all in its Resynced glory!

* What Stands Out:
– The ‘ground-up’ remake is very well done – from wonderful additions to the main plot to the widening and expanding of the world, there is a lot here to like for both new and returning players.
– The naval combat has had a major upgrade. It is no longer just button-spamming but relies heavily on timing and strategy.
* Fails to impress:
– The open world, while gorgeous in its ray-traced avatar, still has a few niggles. NPC animations can get a bit wonky, and Edward can get stuck in tricky places – nothing that some polish won’t fix.
– Not much else, this is a brilliant remake. Tim to board the brig!
