Hyderabad: Telangana boxer Mohammad Hussamuddin continued his good run as he entered the semifinals in the 57kg category by knocking out Maharashtra’s Rushikesh Gaud at the 5th men’s Boxing Nationals in Bellary, on Sunday.
The Nizamabad lad and the 2018 Commonwealth Games bronze medallist was in complete control of the bout and showed superior authority to emerge champion. Meanwhile, five-time Asian Championships medallist Shiva Thapa entered the semifinals with a thrilling win over Ankit Narwal, here on Sunday.

The Assam boxer showed great footwork and used all his experience to put pressure on his RSPB opponent with precise punches. Though Thapa faced a stiff challenge, he did not let the momentum slip and completed a 4-1 win in the 63.5kg quarterfinal. For RSPB, Sachin and Varinder Singh (60kg) emerged victors in their respective quarter-finals.
Sachin put up a dominating show to outperform Goa’s Roshan Zamir by unanimous margin in the 54kg quarter-final match. The 2021 Asian Championships bronze medallist Varinder also defeated Inderjit Singh of Daman, Diu & Nagar Haveli 5-0.
