Hyderabad: The main opposition BRS moved a privilege motion against Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, accusing him of misleading the Telangana Assembly and providing false information during discussions on Krishna River water sharing and irrigation projects. On Monday, BRS Assembly Whip KP Vivekananda, along with MLAs Kova Laxmi, Vijayudu and Anil Jadhav, submitted a formal complaint to Assembly Secretary Tirupati, seeking action against the Chief Minister for allegedly violating the privileges of the House.
Addressing the media at the Assembly Media Point premises, Vivekananda charged that the Congress government was built on lies and was running the administration by deceiving the people. He said Revanth Reddy made false statements on record, including during a presentation in the House, and misrepresented the deliberations held in the Apex Council on Krishna waters.
The BRS Whip accused the Chief Minister of creating the impression that there was a permanent agreement on Krishna River water sharing and of falsely claiming credit for stopping the Rayalaseema Lift Irrigation project. He said the Andhra Pradesh government had rubbished the Chief Minister’s claims, pointing out that the project was halted following orders from the National Green Tribunal by the then YSR Congress government, based on a complaint by the then BRS government. He dared the Chief Minister to clarify the statement issued by the Andhra Pradesh government.
He stated that Revanth Reddy even swore on the deities while making misleading statements during discussions on the Palamuru-Rangareddy lift irrigation scheme, leading to a complete erosion of public trust.
Demanding that the Speaker admit the privilege motion, Vivekananda said the Chief Minister should apologise to the people and the House. He also accused the Congress of stifling the Opposition’s voice and trampling on Telangana’s rights, asserting that the BRS would continue to raise issues both inside and outside the Assembly. He stated that the Congress government, which was afraid to allow the BRS to make a presentation in the House, conducted Zero Hour for nearly four hours, which was unprecedented.
