Wanaparthy: The Bharat Rashtra Samithi extended its support to the protest by paddy farmers demanding procurement of their stocks at Shivaji Crossroads, Kothakota here on Saturday.
Former Devarakadra MLA Ala Venkateshwar Reddy participated in the protest.
Slamming the Congress government for its negligence, the former MLA said that farmers have been waiting for days for their paddy to be procured, yet there was no one to address their plight.
He alleged that, far from fulfilling the promises made to farmers during the elections, the Congress government was now causing them distress by delaying procurement of their harvested crops.
The State government had failed in making necessary arrangements like providing gunny bags, arranging trucks for transportation and the allocation of rice mills, he charged, adding that farmers were being exploited under the pretext of deductions for weight loss and impurities).
Moreover, the former MLA noted that delays in procurement had left farmers increasingly anxious, particularly in light of unseasonal rains. Due to the delays at government procurement centers, farmers were being forced to sell their produce to private traders at a loss, he maintained.
“The Congress government is deliberately neglecting the procurement process in an attempt to evade paying the promised bonus to farmers,” Venkateshwar Reddy charged.
He warned that if the issue remains unaddressed, the BRS party would intensify its protests across the region.
“Farmers are enduring immense hardship under the Congress government. The farming community will teach the ruling party a fitting lesson when the opportunity arises,” Venkateshwar Reddy warned.
