Hyderabad: Protests erupted across Telangana on Sunday as BRS cadres staged demonstrations against the Special Investigation Team (SIT) summoning party president and former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao for examination in the alleged phone-tapping case. They alleged that the Revanth Reddy government was indulging in political vendetta against the former Chief Minister.
From village junctions to national highways, party workers held rallies, road blockades and effigy burnings, calling the SIT action political harassment. Large groups of supporters also gathered at Chandrashekhar Rao’s residence in Erravelli.

Effigies of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy were burned in several districts, including Nagarkurnool, Siddipet, Nizamabad, Adilabad, Jangaon, Medak, Nalgonda and Jogulamba Gadwal. Protests were reported from mandal headquarters and remote villages alike, with local BRS leaders leading marches and slogan-raising. In some places, demonstrators staged mock funeral processions of the Congress government and other symbolic acts to express anger against the investigation.
Senior leaders, including former MLAs and district-level functionaries, participated in rallies, bike processions and highway blockades. Police intervened in a few areas, making preventive arrests in different parts of the State where leaders had gathered following a call for statewide protests by BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao.

BRS leaders warned the government against targeting their party chief, accusing the ruling Congress of misusing investigative agencies for political purposes.
Meanwhile, Chandrashekhar Rao left his Erravelli residence and is expected to arrive at Nandi Nagar by noon. He will be accompanied by K.T. Rama Rao. Senior BRS leaders, including T. Harish Rao and others, will remain stationed at Telangana Bhavan. In view of the SIT investigation, police have intensified security at Nandi Nagar and Telangana Bhavan.
