BRS cadres unveils ex-MLA Sudharshan Reddy’s statue at Narsampet amid tensions

Warangal: BRS cadres of Narsampet Assembly constituency have installed a statue of former MLA Peddi Sudharshan Reddy at the place where municipal staff demolished the pedestal on Sunday.
The party cadres, along with former MLA Nannapuneni Narender and others, reached Sarvapuram on the outskirts of Narsampet town after the 11th-day memorial ceremony held in honour of Sudharshan Reddy at his native place, Nallabelli village.
They installed a bust-size statue of Sudharshan Reddy on a pedestal built again in a rush on private land located opposite Government Medical College. Tension prevailed during the unveiling of the statue as police arrived at the site and tried to disrupt the unveiling of the statue.
BRS leaders resisted, questioning the police’s interference regarding a statue being installed on private land. The police backed down after the leaders warned them that they would take legal action against them for obstructing the statue unveiling.
Earlier in the day, BRS Former Minister Errabelli Dayakar Rao, MLC Takkallapalli Ravinder Rao and former MP Boinapally Vinod Kumar, along with senior BRS leaders and a large number of cadres, staged a rasta-roko on a main road in the town.
Police tried to take the leaders into custody, during which a scuffle ensued between BRS activists and the police, leading to tension in the town. The leaders strongly condemned the demolition of the pedestal at the behest of the ruling party leaders.
Speaking to the media, former ZP chairman Akula Srinivas informed that the party cadres had performed ‘Bhumi Pooja’ a few days ago and built the pedestal to install Sudharshan Reddy’s statue on the land belonging to Jangama Rama Rao of Narsampet.
He alleged that officials demolished the pedestal just as preparations were being made to unveil the statue during the 11th-day memorial ceremony in honour of Sudharshan Reddy, who played a key role in sanctioning the Government Medical College at Narsampet.
