Hyderabad: The BRS condemned the alleged false case filed against its former MLA Peddi Sudharshan Reddy and other leaders during the Jubilee Hills bypoll campaign. The party leaders said such actions were an attempt to intimidate the BRS cadre ahead of the November 11 bypoll but vowed that their campaign would continue undeterred.
Tensions ran high during the BRS campaign for its Jubilee Hills bypoll candidate Maganti Sunitha Gopinath in Yousufguda on Sunday evening, following a confrontation between BRS and Congress workers. According to reports, the BRS campaign event, held with prior permission from the Election Commission of India, was disrupted when the Congress campaign vehicle blocked the road for nearly two hours. Loudspeakers were reportedly used to drown out the BRS meeting, leading to heated arguments between workers of both parties.
BRS supporters accused Congress activists of deliberately provoking the crowd and insulting their candidate, Maganti Sunitha. They said a complaint was lodged with the Election Commission and the police through the C-Vigil app, but no immediate action was taken.
Instead, the Madhuranagar police registered a case against BRS leader and former MLA Peddi Sudharshan Reddy under Sections 173 and 176 of the IPC, following a complaint from a Congress social media wing member accusing the BRS leaders of attempting to attack the Congress campaign vehicle and incite violence.
In a statement, Sudharshan Reddy said the case was filed in a biased manner and described it as politically motivated.
“Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, who also holds the Home department in his portfolio, is unduly pressuring the police to register such false cases against us to prevent us from participating in the election campaign. However, we will not be intimidated by such tactics,” he asserted.
