Karimnagar: Senior BRS leader B Vinod Kumar on Saturday condemned Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s remarks that the Kaleshwaram project, constructed at a cost of Rs1 lakh crore by the previous BRS government, had been washed away in the Godavari river.

The Chief Minister made this statement during his Independence Day address after hoisting the tricolour at the Golconda Fort on Friday.

Vinod Kumar, who inspected the Gayatri pump house in Ramadugu mandal along with other party leaders, said it was improper for the Chief Minister to make such remarks on a national occasion.

He pointed out that Godavari water was being lifted through the Gayatri pump house, built as part of the Kaleshwaram project. “If the CM’s statement was true, how is water being lifted for the past three days?” he asked.

The water being pumped is filling the Mid Manair and Lower Manair dams, ensuring irrigation for the ongoing Vanakalam as well as the coming Yasangi season.

He noted that several barrages and pump houses were constructed under the project at a cost of Rs. 80,000 crore. While three pillars of the Medigadda reservoir, worth Rs.300 crore, were damaged, the Chief Minister was spreading “false propaganda” by claiming the entire project had collapsed into the Godavari, he alleged.

“Let us talk politics and criticise each other, but it is not proper for the Chief Minister to make such statements,” he said, urging Revanth Reddy to refrain from repeating them.
