Suryapet: The Suryapet police achieved a breakthrough in the investigation of a major theft at Sai Santoshi Jewellery in the town. The heist, which occurred on the night of July 21, involved the theft of 2.5 kilograms of gold and cash.
Police arrested Yashoda, a 30-year-old woman from Khammam, and recovered some gold from her. Her confession led to the identification of a seven-member gang, including suspects from Nepal and West Bengal. Police apprehended two other members of the gang: Malik Molla on August 11 in Baihor village, Dakshin Dinajpur, West Bengal, and Amar Bhatt, a Nepalese national. They recovered 554 grams of gold ornaments worth Rs. 60 lakh and Rs. 87,500 in cash.
Molla confessed to collaborating with Prakash Anil Kumar, Kadak Singh, Puran Prasad Joshi and Jashimuddin, all of whom are still absconding. The gang used a gas cutter to breach the shop’s bathroom wall to steal the gold and cash, which they divided among themselves.
Superintendent of Police P. Narasimha commended DSP Prasanna Kumar, Inspector Venkataiah, and other officers for the breakthrough. Special teams continue to search for the remaining suspects in Bihar, Jharkhand, and Nepal.
