KARIMNAGAR: BRS corporators boycotted the farewell meeting of the Karimnagar Municipal Corporation in protest against Mayor Y Sunil Rao’s attitude.

As the term of the present council concluded on Tuesday, a farewell programme was conducted to felicitate all corporators. It is a tradition for the Mayor to felicitate council members by wearing the ceremonial Mayor’s gown.

However, Sunil Rao, who recently joined the BJP, felicitated corporators by wearing a BJP scarf on his shoulders. Following this, BRS corporators boycotted the ceremony.

Speaking on the occasion, BRS corporator and former Mayor S Ravinder Singh said it was a tradition to felicitate council members by wearing the ceremonial gown. However, the Mayor felicitated corporators by wearing a BJP shawl on his shoulders. So, they boycotted the farewell programme since BRS corporators were not ready to receive such felicitation.

The programme appeared to be a BJP meeting. It was not proper on the part of Sunil Rao to participate in farewell meeting by wearing party shawl. If he was not the Mayor, why he was given honour, Ravinder Singh questioned municipal officials.

On the other hand, a huge police force was deployed in MCK office premises following the political turmoil between the Mayor and BRS corporators in the recent past.
