With their five-year tenure nearing completion, GHMC corporators are set to undertake an all-expenses-paid study tour to Sabarmati in Ahmedabad. The trip, planned in two phases, excludes BRS corporators but includes members from Congress, BJP and AIMIM.
The GHMC’s proposed delimitation of 300 wards has triggered widespread criticism from corporators, political parties and resident welfare associations. BRS and BJP corporators met GHMC officials to register objections, while RWAs argued the changes could disrupt community services.
BRS working president KT Rama Rao assured GHMC corporators of future posts for their dedicated service. He congratulated them for effective governance, urged preparations for Deeksha Diwas on November 29, and highlighted the historic 2009 hunger strike during Telangana’s formation.
It is a tradition for the Mayor to felicitate council members by wearing the ceremonial Mayor’s gown. However, Sunil Rao, who recently joined the BJP, felicitated corporators by wearing a BJP scarf on his shoulders. Following this, BRS corporators boycotted the ceremony
As the term of the council concluded on Tuesday, the concluding meeting of council was conducted on Tuesday. On the occasion, the corporators were to be felicitated.
Stating that the BRS would protect Mayor Jakka Venkat Reddy and its corporators, he vowed to repay the Congress' harassment with interest whenever the BRS returned to power.
BRS corporators and MLAs who participated in the session registered their protest holding placards calling for the Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi’s resignation.
