Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao came out all guns blazing against the Congress government, charging it with dragging Telangana into a crisis and failing to protect the State’s interests.
He outlined the BRS strategy to reclaim lost ground and fight against the anti-people policies of the Congress.
Addressing the media at Telangana Bhavan after a five-hour marathon meeting of the party’s extended executive body chaired by party president K Chandrashekhar Rao at Telangana Bhavan on Wednesday, Rama Rao said the meeting focused on three crucial issues – silver jubilee celebrations of BRS, strengthening the party and taking up people’s movements.
Accordingly, the BRS will launch large-scale public movements to highlight the deteriorating conditions in Telangana under the Congress rule. He accused the government of incompetence, citing the deaths of 430 farmers due to agrarian distress, 57 Gurukul students due to poor conditions and over 100 auto-rickshaw drivers, apart from around 30 weavers and realtors facing financial ruin.
“The Congress failed to provide drinking water, manage power supply, and improve healthcare and education, which were all discussed extensively during the meeting. The Congress government maintained silence over injustice being meted out to Telangana in Krishna River water allocations. If the Congress continues to neglect Telangana’s interests, BRS will take up an aggressive ground-level fight,” Rama Rao declared.
Marking the commencement of the 25th year of the party’s inception, BRS announced year-long celebrations involving the public and leaders from the Telangana statehood movement. Committees comprising party leaders and statehood agitation leaders will be formed within a week to oversee these events.
To strengthen the party at the grassroots, the BRS working president revealed plans for a membership drive and the formation of party committees from the village to the State level. A crucial party delegates meeting will be held in the second week of April, while a massive public meeting is planned for April 27, coinciding with the party foundation day, for which the location will be finalised soon. Additionally, the party president’s election will be conducted in October.
Besides appointing committees at all levels for the party and its affiliated organisations, the BRS will organise training programmes for the party cadre and also leaders of its affiliated organisations including women, student, workers unions and social media warriors among others. The meeting also discussed on numerous issues plaguing the people of the State including lack of drinking water, power cuts, failure in health and education among others.
The former Minister pointed out that despite having eight BJP MPs, including two Union Ministers, and eight Congress MPs, the State had not received even eight rupees from the Centre. He pointed out the irony that TDP, with just 16 MPs, was dictating terms to the BJP to benefit Andhra Pradesh, while Telangana remains ignored.
Rama Rao launched a direct attack on Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, taking a dig at the latter’s governance abilities.
“Mouthing punchlines is easy, but running a government is difficult. People are well aware of his capabilities,” he remarked. He charged Revanth Reddy with using the caste census as a diversion, stating that the survey was full of errors and had been rejected even by BC organisations along with the BRS. “If Revanth is serious about 42 per cent BC reservations, let him come out with an action plan. How does he plan to implement it?” he challenged.
He also hit back at allegations that BRS leaders feared participation in the caste census because their assets would be exposed. “Our family’s details are available in election affidavits. This is just another ridiculous excuse by Revanth Reddy,” he added.
On the Congress demanding Chandrashekhar Rao to attend the Assembly session, Rama Rao dared the Congress government to convene the Assembly session, without fearing tough questions on its governance failures.
