Hyderabad: The BRS demanded an immediate inquiry into the status of eight acres of land in Bowenpally-Cantonment, alleging that the government property, valued at nearly Rs 800 crore, had been encroached upon by a private company despite being identified for a major public housing project.

In a letter to Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Sunday, BRS spokesperson Manne Krishank said the land in Survey No. 157/1 at Thokatta in Trimulgherry had long been treated as government property, with previous administrations pursuing legal measures to protect it from encroachments. He said the Congress government proposed the construction of 6,000 Indiramma houses on the same land in 2025 following a representation from Secunderabad Cantonment MLA Sri Ganesh.

However, the BRS leader said the land was now fenced off and brought under the control of private entities, raising concerns among local citizens. He questioned how a property earmarked for public welfare could allegedly pass into private hands within a short period.

Citing earlier revenue records, Krishank said the land had been the subject of disputes and official scrutiny, with authorities previously noting unresolved survey and boundary issues. He questioned the silence of local MLA Sri Ganesh on the issue, fuelling doubts. He called for a transparent investigation into the matter.

Among the key demands, the BRS leader sought an independent inquiry into the ownership and status of the land and verification of whether it remained government property. He demanded an examination of the role of officials and public representatives in case of discrepancies, and a probe into any alleged misuse of authority or financial irregularities. He also urged that all records related to the land be made public, besides initiating steps to protect the property and take up construction of the proposed 6,000 Indiramma houses on the site.
