Hyderabad: The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) demanded an immediate inquiry into the alleged transfer of nearly eight acres of government land worth about Rs 500 crore in Bowenpally-Cantonment to private hands. The party sought immediate measures to safeguard the public property that was intended to provide housing for the poor.
In a statement issued on Friday, BRS spokesperson and Cantonment constituency in-charge Manne Krishank said the land, which was identified by the Congress government in 2025 for the construction of 6,000 Indiramma houses, was now reportedly under private occupation.
He questioned how land officially recognised as government property less than a year ago could allegedly be fenced off and taken over by private individuals.
The BRS leader sought an explanation from the State government on the status of the land and demanded answers to serious questions regarding the role of those responsible for safeguarding public property. He demanded disclosure of all records, permissions and documents related to the property.
Krishank urged the Congress government to honour its earlier proposal of constructing 6,000 Indiramma houses on the site, as the land had originally been earmarked for a public welfare housing project.
Alleging that valuable government land worth nearly Rs 500 crore had changed hands in a short span, he called for a comprehensive investigation to identify those responsible and determine whether there had been any misuse of power.
