Hyderabad: Amid allegations that some Congress Ministers were summoning women officers to their residences for late night review meetings, the main opposition BRS strongly condemned such actions, terming them a grave violation of administrative norms and women’s dignity. A delegation of BRS women leaders led by former Minister and senior MLA V Sunitha Lakshma Reddy on Monday, submitted a complaint to the Telangana State Women Commission’s secretary for stringent action.
Addressing the mediapersons at Buddha Bhavan, Sunitha Lakshma Reddy said several women officers were facing pressure and humiliation from senior Ministers. “Some Ministers are calling women officers home for reviews. This is unacceptable and dangerous. Women officers must be allowed to work freely without fear or harassment,” she insisted.
The BRS leader accused the Congress government of failing to safeguard women’s dignity in public life. “They promised Indiramma Rajyam (Indira Gandhi’s rule), but brought an era of insults to women. Even a woman Minister reportedly fears meeting the Chief Minister,” she said, adding that the government had created a culture of intimidation and disrespect towards women representatives, journalists, and officials.
Citing recent incidents of harassment, including the assault on a tribal woman in Kothagudem and suicides of girl students in Gurukul schools, she said the government’s silence reflected its insensitivity. “Women journalists were attacked and cases were filed against them, a woman officer was insulted at the Chief Minister’s residence in Delhi, and yet the Women’s Commission chairperson is missing from duty,” she remarked.
Former MLA Padma Devender Reddy demanded a suo motu case based on media reports, questioning why reviews were being held at Ministers’ residences when a new Secretariat was available. “If the Ministers want reviews, let them hold them in offices, not behind closed doors at night,” she said. She extended solidarity with Jubilee Hills bypoll candidate Sunitha Gopinath, who was publicly humiliated by the Congress Ministers, for becoming emotional in public over her husband’s demise.
