BRS hits back at Revanth over Sircilla remarks, questions Congress govt’s record on promises

The BRS on Wednesday criticised Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy for allegedly using his Sircilla public meeting to target BRS president K Chandrashekhar Rao and working president KT Rama Rao instead of addressing issues concerning weavers, farmers and implementation of Congress poll promises.

Hyderabad: The BRS on Wednesday hit back at Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy over his Sircilla speech, accusing him of using a government platform to settle political scores with the party chief and former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao and working president KT Rama Rao. 

The party leaders said instead of spelling out the Congress government’s measures for weavers and farmers or the implementation of electoral promises in Rajanna Sircilla district, the Chief Minister indulged in personal attacks and political rhetoric.

Former Minister S Niranjan Reddy said Revanth Reddy’s speech was marked by self-praise and attacking others, despite the Congress government being nearly three years into  office. He said the Chief Minister should have explained what his government had done for Sircilla instead of repeatedly blaming the BRS.

He particularly questioned the government’s handling of the handloom sector. He alleged that the Congress government withheld Bathukamma saree orders and adversely affected Sircilla weavers, while Revanth Reddy attempted to blame the previous BRS government.

BRS MLC Dasoju Sravan questioned why the government was not giving Bathukamma saree orders to local weavers. He alleged that Gurukul uniform tenders had been awarded to a Gujarat-based company. 

He challenged Revanth Reddy to demonstrate his concern for the Padmashali community by giving a graduate MLC ticket to Kailash Netha, instead of choosing both the Congress candidates from upper castes in the upcoming elections. He questioned the number of BC Ministers in the State Cabinet and officials in the Chief Minister’s Office.

BRS MLA and former Minister Vemula Prashanth Reddy rejected Revanth Reddy’s allegations about the K Chandrashekhar Rao family’s wealth and properties. He said the assets of the BRS chief and his family members had already been disclosed in their election affidavits. He challenged Revanth Reddy and his brothers to publish their properties and sources of income. 

He recalled that Revanth Reddy had made similar claims against Chandrashekhar Rao’s Erravelli residence earlier and even conducted surveys only to receive severe backlash from locals. 

“Unable to digest his failure to prove his allegations, he vented his frustration by making false allegations once again in Sircilla,” he added.

The BRS leaders questioned Revanth Reddy’s own record on assets, including properties in Jubilee Hills and around the Outer Ring Road, turning his demand for a disclosure by the Chandrashekhar Rao family back on the Chief Minister. 

They also targeted Revanth Reddy’s promise to make the Congress leader who defeated KT Rama Rao in Sircilla a Minister, pointing out that nearly three years into the government’s term, the Chief Minister had still not expanded his Cabinet.
