Hyderabad: Launching a Statewide campaign against the Congress government’s failures ahead of the upcoming local body elections, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi on Saturday released the Congress Dues Card, a symbolic card detailing pending welfare dues owed to various sections of the society.
The campaign, launched by BRS working president KT Rama Rao, aims to remind voters of unfulfilled promises made during the 2023 assembly polls. The Dues Card campaign lists the Congress government’s lapses across key sectors, backed by figures and timelines. The arrears listed include Rs.2,500 assistance per month promised to women in the State. The government owed Rs.55,000 (Rs.2,500 × 22 months) to every woman in the State according to the card, which Rama Rao described as a counter to the guarantees of the Congress.
Similarly, the Congress had promised to hike the old age pension to Rs.4,000 and it owed Rs.44,000 to each one of the old age pensioners. Same was the case with physically challenged persons, who were promised a pension hike to Rs.6,000. The Congress had promised one tola of gold to the newlyweds in the State under the Kalyana Lakshmi and Shadi Mubarak schemes. It now owed 8 lakh tolas of gold to over 8 lakh newlywed couples during the past 22 months.
Unveiling the campaign’s poster in the presence of former ministers, Rama Rao vowed to take the message to every doorstep in the State. He appealed to the people of Telangana to use upcoming local body elections and the Jubilee Hills bypoll as an opportunity to teach the Congress a lesson.
“The deceptions of the Congress have now become weapons in the hands of the people. We will knock on every door and lay bare the mountain of Congress’s pending dues,” he said, emphasizing that the campaign would be carried out in Telugu, Urdu, and English to reach all communities.
He recounted former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao‘s pre-election warning: “If you get deceived, you’ll face the consequences – and that’s exactly what’s happening today.” He criticized Congress leaders, including Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and Deputy CM Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, for signing bonds and promissory notes on unfulfilled guarantees.
“Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had promised that these promises will be given legal backing in the first cabinet meeting of the government. Over 30 cabinet meetings were held, but there’s no progress,” Rama Rao said, pointing out that the Congress had won on farmers’ votes but was now trampling them at every step.
“What happened to the Rs 15,000 per acre promise? It’s pending. The Rs 500 bonus per quintal of paddy was announced and then shelved. For tenant farmers and agricultural laborers, the promised Rs 15,000 and Rs 12,000 aids have vanished into thin air. Aren’t these all pending? The Congress dashed the hopes of our brothers and sisters. The promise of 2 lakh jobs is pending. They pledged 4,000 monthly unemployment allowance, but after 22 months, every jobless youth is owed thousands. What answer does Congress have for this deceit?” he asked.
“No government has cheated women as cruelly as the Congress did under the guise of the Mahalakshmi scheme. They promised Rs 2,500 per month, leaving each woman with nearly Rs 55,000 pending today. For the 8 lakh women who married after this government came to power, 8 lakh tolas of gold are pending. Isn’t this sheer deception?” he asked, also highlighting pending Indiramma houses for the poor, 250 square yards of land for Telangana movement activists, scooties for girl students, Rs 5 lakh education assurance cards for youth, Rs 24,000 aid for auto drivers, and proper implementation of the Griha Jyothi scheme.
“If we keep listing, Congress’s pending ledger will stretch endlessly. We’ll expose every one of these deceptions before the people,” he asserted, also warning the people that if voters mistakenly supported the Congress again, even welfare schemes like Rythu Bandhu would be discontinued soon.
